Eric Freudenthal is an Assistant Professor of Computer
Science at the University of Texas at El Paso. Dr. Freudenthal has been
active in computer systems research for more than twenty years and has
contributed to a variety of projects ranging from computer vision to the design
of algorithms and architectures for high performance, secure, and distributed
systems.Dr. Freudenthal’s early contributions to education research were
directed towards improvement of systems courses in computer science. His work
in programs for entering STEM students was initially motivated by observations
that many computer science undergraduates were oriented towards learning math
superficially through memorization rather than reflectively because their
coursework required to application of equations they didn’t understand. With CCLI funding from the NSF, Dr. Freudenthal has recently developed a course titled “Computational CS-Zero” that introduces students to the basics of programming through multimedia. |
